Heal Thyself

"Let me out. I can fix this." I sighed, rolling my eyes. "I know what I did wrong! I can code a second virus to go after the first, meet it at each point, reinstate the original pattern! Things can be back the way they were!" His blood-streaked gaze met mine. "Just let me out, and things can go back to normal."

I stared at him for a few moments as if in contemplation; then I dragged his still-broken body about one foot forward - just far enough so that his head would be clear of the block - then stepped back and kicked the jack out from under it. The block dropped, concrete grinding against concrete, flattening his body, forcing blood out of his mouth and nose with a belching sound. His frantic expression was coloured with the despair he knew each time I visited him.

"I don't want things back to normal, Joseph," I said, running my hand down my chest. There was no sign of the axe wound. "I like it this way."

I left him gasping like a fish and went back to the station to wait for the next train. I hoped there would be someone interesting to play with on the way home.
