David plays everyones's favourite NaziI first met Dr Scott many years ago in which the theatre group I was associated with started staging and performing The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I was indeed fortunate to be given the role of Dr Scott and thus was the beginning of a long association, over many years with my alter-ego. Through the many live productions of the show Dr Scott has grown in strength, as I try to inject as much colour and contraversy into the second half of the show. I've always sees Dr Scott as a 'bit of a Nazi' who at the end of the war, fled to America to escape the Nuremberg trials. However due to bad habits or force of nature jumps uncontrolably back into Nazism. Not unlike Peter Sellers in the movie, Dr Strange Glove. Best memories of Dr Scott and Rocky Horro was when the theatre group I was with decided to run the show with two performances a night over a period of ten days. The first show was always okay, but because we hyped up and were ready to go, the second show was always a blast. By the time the second show was over, we were absolutely stuffed. Feeling done in I found myself in many other roles from shows such as West Side Story, Pippen, Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, Best Little Whore in Texas. But to me none of them had the lift or passion, colour, strength and weirdness of Rocky Horror. When the live productions were over I left the theatre group. I knew that the character of Dr Scott that I had carried of and on for a number of years was gone, never to wheel in his chair again. However almost by accident I stumbled into the old Valhalla Cinema where they were performing Rocky Horror with audience participation. I quickly became a regular and did that stuff that I do so well, once again. But sadly for the first time ever I found the show and myself stale, the wheels falling off and I hate to say it, but not enjoyable. The the restraints of domestic life crept in and then the complete loso of interest in the show. Dr Scott was long dead. Many years have now past, with little or no acting at all, my agent left me, gone to a distant planet or so he said. But strangely I now find the desire to do Rocky, spin those wheels and take that step to the right, burning within me once again even more than it ever did. My god I can move my wheels The audience participation with the movie playing behind will never be as fulfilling as the live show with orchestra but I do find it just as enjoyable. As a new cast member to Melbourne Rocky Horror, I am indeed greatful for this opportunity and indeed look forward with antisapation to Rocky nights. Well perhaps it was all for the best!
